Maritime museum

Trondhjems Sjøfartsmuseum - The Maritime museum of Trondheim was established in 1920. Since 1971 the museum has been situated in this buidling, the "old slavery". The house was built around 1725 and served as the main guardhouse of the town, as well as a prison for the worst criminals of the time.

An exhibition "100 years of steam", consisting of artefacts and images from the age of steam ships, i.e. the middle of the 19th century. Models and pictures of ships belonging to the town's largest shipping company Nordenfjeldske Dampskibsselskap (NFDS) can be seen.

The first floor will be opened in July 2009 and the exhibition there will focus on the era of sailboats and be a wonderful place for children to visit.
